Balnaves The Blend 2012

 Balnaves the blend

Grab this one while it is still available. Cellar door has moved onto the next vintage however, you will find it in some stores still. It is a deliciously fun wine that overdelivers in spades. A blend of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (43%), and Cabernet Franc (6%). Bright plum and blackcurrant fruit, liquorice and dried mint is just the start.

The bold fruit displays vivacity amongst its depths. Freshness is key here, enlivening the palate with fresh fruit joined by chocolatey oak on the finish. A good drink without food, but I would love to see it with a plate of sausages, mash and lashings of onions and gravy. It is simply made to enjoy.

Date:  August 2014   Price:  $19    Value: $$$$   Drink: Now – 5 years
