Bardos Romantica Ribera del Duero Crianza

Bardos Romantica

Who makes it?

Bardos is one of a large ‘stable’ of Spanish wine labels and estates in Vintae’s collection along with Lopez de Haro. In just over 20 years they have done a great deal to promote Spain’s different wine regions. It is no surprise that one of those regions is Ribera del Duero. Rightfully, the Ribera del Duero has attracted a lot of attention in the past decade and it is easy to see why when you taste Romantica.

The region is located on the high plains of Castilla y León to the north of Madrid. It’s well known for its expressive red wines made from local native Tempranillo. Interestingly, in this region Tempranillo is also known as Tinta del Pais.

How they make it?

Bardos Romantica is made from older vine Tempranillo. The vineyards here are naturally low yield giving this wine a deep ruby glow and an elegant boldness. Following ferment, it spends around 14 months in seasoned French oak to soften and round it out.

What does it taste like?

After some time in oak, the wine has some rich underlying toasted smoky oak and cinnamon spice. However, there is plenty of ripe blackberry and plum fruit to balance it out. It is undeniably a full bodied red with plush tannins and that richness flows along the very shapely finish.

What to drink with it?

Drink Bardos Romantica with a Sunday roast, or go with something like venison sausages, roast beetroot and mashed potatoes with a drizzle of truffle oil. Unsurprisingly though, it is good to move with the conversation from the table to the couch.
