This winery is consistently hitting the spot these days with all of it’s range. It is certainly one to watch for future developments. Based in the Margaret River, Western Australia, it focuses mostly on the varietals that have earned the region renown. The Martin family philosophy of harvesting when the grapes display the optimum flavour profile rather than purely on ripeness certainly does show in this fresh and elegant Chardonnay at a time when Chardonnay is still undergoing a seachange.
The aromas are of creamy nutty grapefruit and vanilla and everytime you go back you discover another finely tuned layer. The structure and flavours are still rather tight but you can detect nutty pear, honeyed melon and some subtle stonefruit. The acid is zippy and the length keeps deliverying. This is a great food wine – perhaps some turkey with caramelised onion jam.
