Mount Majura Tempranillo 2012
From the cooler climes of the Nation’s capital, close to the airport in tact, this Tempranillo is amongst the best of this varietal in Australia thanks to the ten vintages under the cool hands of Frank van der Loo. Although I think that at this moment the 2011 is slightly better, the 2012 vintage is beguiling with its bouquet of raspberry, dried roses, pepper and herbs. It encourages you to slow down and take your time with it. Yes, time to smell the roses is very apt. It is silky, the tannins have a definite squeaky tendency, and medium bodied with a long savoury olive tapenade finish. Give it five years to rest and it will be superb.
