Are you a Fiano lover, yet? This is one of the wines you should try if you are new to the grape or new to Oliver’s Taranga label. I am always keen to see each new vintage, to see what how Corrina has honed the wine this time. Each vintage is a snapshot in time, showing the potential of this relatively new grape becoming more popular in Australian vineyards.
Corrina Wright is not only well respected and loved for her contribution to the Australian Wine Industry but also for her role in keeping the innovative spirit alive at the family winery. She does all this whilst paying homage to the rich McLaren Vale history of the family’s wine heritage.
Recently, they have released a traditional method Fiano and I am sure that this next expression of the grape will be only the beginning of the Fiano story that unfolds in the Oliver’s Taranga winery. Particularly since in 2017, Corrina visited Avellino DOCG, just to the east of Naples, to check out the wines being produced in region producing the finest examples of the grape in Italy.
This Fiano has been left to shine, left unadorned with additional artifice. Using indigenous yeasts, natural acid and no oak, it has developed a floral nuance to its intense, zippy lime citrus, stonefruit. In amongst that fresh fruit, there is a mineral and spice definition and nutty savouriness. While, it is a wine that you can enjoy with a plate full of BBQ octopus or grilled fish rubbed with lemon myrtle and pepper. Before you do this though, you should take the time to enjoy a glass before sitting down to a meal.
