Compared the previous vintages of ’03 & ’05, this vintage is just that little bit richer while still with some noticeable but attractive tannins. The characters are ripe black berry, and vanilla with some earthy black pepper. It does have some edginess that should calm down a little in a couple of years. The finish is slightly warm but the fruit balance provides support.
If you have an opportunity to get your hands on the 03 or 05, then do it. They are drinking really well and still have remarkably fresh raspberry and pepper characters. The ’03 with some of that Hunter dustiness (but not as dusty as your Grans record collection) and the ’05 with some game.
