St Supéry is a good fit with its luxury brand Chanel stablemates: Chateau Rauzan-Segla and Chateau Canon. Founders of St Supéry, the Skalli family, focused on Bordeaux grapes cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc and this is a blend of the classic red grapes from this region – cabernet sauvignon (65%), merlot (22%) with some cabernet franc and petit verdot thrown in the mix.
The Elu is released with five years of age already down, giving you a head start as this wine will be ageing gracefully still at 10 years of age. Rich vanilla and cinnamon spice coat ripe plum and blackcurrant fruit and a savoury earthiness. The intensity of the fruit is solidly supported by the succulently toasted oak making this a warm, finely tuned mouthful. If you decide to drink it early, enjoy it with herb crusted roast lamb or maybe a dressy version of venison bangers and mash.
