The Rymill winemaking team, led by Sandrine Gimon, always has food on their mind. Not because they are greedy guts’, but because they appreciate that good wine and food always go hand in hand. The wine should in no way overshadow the meal you enjoy it with and ‘gt’, ‘sbs’ and their red stable mate, ‘mc2’, are standouts when it comes to ‘foodable’ wines.
The gt is a seriously tasty gewürztraminer for those who like the fruit without the sugar. It delivers pretty rose petal, citrus and lush stone fruit aromas that seamlessly translate into an intense mouthful on the palate through to the finish. Long and a little leaner than you expect from that redolent nose, although, the wine is impeccably balanced and dry. There is some fleshy texture there to round it out a little however a fine acid mineral riverstone line keeps the wine from being flabby in any way.
All this flavour and aroma is delivered without an alcoholic punch which dry gewürztraminer can achieve in Australia. Here the ABV is only 13% and serves to provide lift without noticeable heat. While crafted by the team to be a food loving wine, but it really does not need food and is great on its own.
