Who makes it?

Chateau Latour Pauillac de Latour is a plush red wine from one of the most famous wine producers in the world. The label simply features the famous tower. That tower is a landmark around the township of Pauillac in the Bordeaux region of the Medoc. 

The first vintage for this wine was in 1989.

How do they make it?

Pauillac de Chateau Latour is a wine that aims to match a wide range of foods. The vines providing the grapes are some of the young vines of the estate. These grapes may also be those declassified from the Forts de Latour. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with up to 45% Merlot. Sometimes winelovers may find some Petit Verdot in the blend too. The wine matures in about 20% new oak to maintain the fruitiness and smooth out the tannins. 

What does it taste like?

Pauillac de Chateau Latour has many of the hallmarks you should expect from ‘Claret’. Blackcurrant, plums, cigars and herbs a plenty. It is fuller in body, particularly thanks to that Merlot portion. The tannins are powdery and shapely with fresh acid in support. A light herbal bouquet and ripe plums wrap the wine up nicely on the finish. 

There is no doubt that this wine will smooth out and become more complex with some time in the cellar. 

What to drink it with?

Beef stews, steaks with truffle butter, slow cooked lamb, venison, wild boar – the list is long. You could enjoy it with roast turkey too, if you have all the trimmings.

Cheese

Pauillac de Chateau Latour is a good wine to share with a cheese platter. Semi-hard cheeses, mature hard cheese and blue cheese such as Stilton will be fine place to start. Of course, truffle infused cheese will be great with this wine.
