Diamantopetra Vidiano Assyrtiko 2018

Diamantopetra diamantakis

Diamantopetra is a very fresh Greek blend from the Diamantakis family featuring the iconic Assyrtiko sharing the limelight equally with Vidiano. Vidiano will be a white grape that will become increasingly important in Greece. Just as its acreage is also increasing. Vidiano is noted for its creamy texture with an underlying fresh acidity and floral prettiness. Assyrtiko, better known from the island of Santorini, is also noted for freshness and for its savoury mineral and citrus notes.

There is a just as interesting red partner to this wine. The Diamantopetra Red is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Mandilaria.

Put together, these grapes cast the aromas of blossom, apple, peaches and cream.  It is a full bodied and concentrated blend.  Spending 3 months in oak has rounded out and softened the acid. It has also added a spiciness to the palate. The flavours are generous and last for a long moment, however the acid keeps it neat.

I would take my cues from the Crete lifestyle and drink this with fresh seafood or a grilled haloumi and salad. And keep a look out for more Vidiano wines in the future.
