Dowie Doole BFG Grenache 18

Everyone loves a ‘Big Friendly Grenache’ don’t they?

Dowie Doole BFG

The fruit for the Dowie Doole BFG comes from vineyards in Australia’s McLaren Vale. The McLaren Vale has some of the oldest bush vine Grenache vineyards in the world due to being so far untouched by phylloxera. The vineyard where the grapes for the BFG are grown, are at least half a century old. And the result…. that fruit is big on character while maintaining an elegance that old vine can achieve.

Those old vines have given generously and the liquorice, plum fruit has a raspberry lightness, and some well used oak adds some spicy embellishment. While the initials ‘BFG’ can easily slip into ‘Big Fat Grenache’, the Dowie Doole BFG is not one of these grenaches. It is full bodied with some supple tannins to support that fresh fruit.

This bold red lives up to its name and as such, it is hard to put down. Even better, it is a versatile wine and will step up to roast with all the trimmings or a casual bangers and mash.
