Drappier Brut Nature Champagne

Who makes it?

Drappier Brut Nature is a ripely lush Champagne from the Cote des Bar. This Champagne House is family owned and has been since 1808. Currently, Michel Drappier is the custodian. However the eighth generation is very much hands one too.

Increasingly, Champagne Drappier is developing more of the vineyards they source grapes from into Organic vineyards. Soon they will have around half of these vineyards certified Organic.

How do they make it?

The wine is 100% Pinot Noir, just like it says on the label. All the grapes come from around Urville in the Cote des Bar. Or specifically from the Bar-sur-Aubois sub region.

Even though this wine is not a vintage Champagne, it spends at least 36 months resting on lees. This is remarkable for a non-vintage wine. That time on lees also adds even more dimension to the ripe fruit of the Cote des Bar.

The combination of ripeness and the long lees time is a winning one. What makes this wine even more interesting is that the team use minimum sulphur too..

What does it taste like?

The Drappier Brut Nature is a concentrated fruity Champagne. It is fuller in body and it is very well balanced. The biscuity character is very complementary to the apple, berry and spice fruit. Then there is a flush of herbs and spice. The finish is very long and moreish. Being a zero dosage Champagne, it is also rather detailed with layers of complexity coming through.

What to drink it with?

This Champagne will be a great match with seafood, chicken or vegetarian dishes.  A brie and pear tartlet would also would. So too would chicken and leek in pastry.

Cheese

Drink Drappier Brut Nature Champagne with chevre or bloomy cheeses.
