Fizz from Lidl Wine Tours? Yes, please!

Lidl Wine Tours will have some quite interesting Sparkling wines to offer. Often these wines will be not quite your usual wines that you will find in any supermarkets in the UK. And for the price, they are definitely worth giving a try.

Chateau Dereszla Classic Brut Sparkling Tokaji

This is a finely tuned sparkling wine made from Furmint and Harslevelu from the prestigious Hungarian wine region of Tokaji. It is traditionally made using the same methods as Champagne. They harvest the grapes for this wine from one year. However, you will not see this on the front label. The wine spends around 5 years before it is sold. This makes the value of this wine very remarkable indeed. It is dry, with lemon and grapefruit citrus, pear and blossom characters, with yeast and eggshell minerality. It finishes with a saline savouriness.

This wine is very similar to the Chateau Dereszla Vintage sparkling wine that sells for a lot more than you will pay for this remarkable gem!

Colpasso Spumante Brut Grillo

This was a surprising find in the Lidl Wine Tour. I have seen it more than once and I hope to see it again. Although, I have more recently seen a different Sparkling Grillo there. Grillo is a Sicilian native white grape and it is generally a great choice for those who want a dry savoury white wine that is a little different. The sparkling version is just as interesting and it certainly makes a good alternative to Prosecco. This is dry, with plenty of apple and citrus fruit with a slug of yeasty savouriness too.

Jaume Serra Bouquet Cava Rose

Bodega Jaume Serra is a Cava house to the south of Barcelona around Vilanova i La Geltrú. This is their rose sparkling offerings. Of course, it is packaged in a very stylish wrapped bottled. It is a wine made from the grapes Trepat and Pinot Noir. and it is a Guarda Cava. This means it made in the style of Champagne with a minimum of 9 months resting on its lees (or dead yeast cells) which gives complexity of flavour and some creaminess in texture.

What does it taste like? It has flavours of creamy nougat and almonds and some light cherry and strawberry fruit.
