Who makes it?
Gerard Bertrand Le Chouchou should be your go to wine for Summer lunches. It is a Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault just made for a light chilling. It is not surprising to find a wine such as this in Gerard Bertrand’s portfolio. He is generally a very adaptive winemaker, and I guess, the Languedoc-Rousillon is the region that suits this drive. I notice now too, his daughter Emma is very much involved in the family business.
How do they make it?
To keep Le Chouchou fresh, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel. The grapes come from organic vineyards around Cevennes. After ferment, the wine goes through some malolactic fermentation which gives it some extra character and texture. The wine is lower in alcohol at around 11% ABV, and tends to have just a little residual sugar (around 4 g/l) which helps with the balance.
What does it taste like?
This is fresh and fruity but it has plenty of interest. It still is drier on the palate. It is medium bodied with some silky texture being lighter on tannin. The fruit is lusciously ripe and reminiscent of cherries, strawberries and there is some spiciness on the nose and palate. Along with some herbs too. That fruit lingers and this is quite a satisfying wine.
What to drink it with?
Le Chouchou is excellent with spicy food, or just burgers and BBQ ribs. Chicken, tuna and salmon too.

Smooth tasking wine. We enjoy the flavour and body of this wine. It is our go wine for our table. It goes well with most light and dark meats. It is often very difficult to source this wine in Ontario Canada where we live. We have been known to travel several miles to pickup any available bottles.
Thank uou for producing such a nice wine!
