Who makes it?
Gomez Cruzado is one of the historic estates in the Rioja. The estate’s history dates back to 1886. It is now again owned by a family, this time the Banos family. The estate produces traditional Rioja wines particularly from older vines.
How do they make it?
A white blend featuring the white wine star of Rioja, Viura. The Viura is blended with some Tempranillo Blanco and maybe a small portion of Garnacha Blanca. The grapes for this wine grown at high altitudes around Haro, in La Rioja.
The ‘2 ano’ refers to the wine’s age. It means the wine matures before release in its second year. In this case, a portion matures in oak for 5 months while the majority matures in concrete before being blended back together.

What does it taste like?
The careful portion work of this creamy white wine has added flesh and polish to the concentrated fruit weight. It is dry and round but still retains its fresh and floral appeal. Lemon accentuates the nose. However, it is the white stonefuit and creamy pastry that lasts and linger on. The fuller body is lush and filling. This is a wine that evolves in the glass and keeps the conversation going.
What to drink it with?
A white wine such as this from Gomez Cruzado is an excellent choice with chicken, fish and salad of, course. But also a cheese and bacon roulade, or an onion tart. Or a roast turkey with a lighter sauce and roast vegetables.
Cheese
Enjoy this with a white bloomy cheese or maybe even an Epoisses.
