Four great value wines from Bordeaux

Here is a video with some great tips on what to match these wines, especially for the festive season ….

Calvet Cremant de Bordeaux Brut –  A long mouthful of soft mousse with a slight crunch to the acid. A buttery, lemon, apple, toast and biscuit fizz that is good with or without food. It is particularly tasty with grilled seafood and there are bargains to be found.  £12 | US $17+ | €9

Chateau Vignol Entre-Deaux-Mers 2017 – A classic white Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Sémillon and Muscadelle. Good all rounder that will match a wide range of food that will compliment the pineapple, lime and apple aromas, spiced up with some ginger on the palate. £11 | US $15+ | €7

Chateau Saint Sauveur 2012 Bordeaux Superieur – A good value wine with all the typical Bordeaux merlot characters – lashings of plums, blackcurrant, liquorice, nutmeg and some cedar. It is fuller in body, with plush velvety fruit with some toasted oak and powdery tannins. This is an easy choice to take from dinner to a comfy couch for some after dinner conversation.  £11

Chateau Lauriol Francs Cotes de Bordeaux 2014 – A bolder, riper style of merlot from Bordeaux. Coffee, cigar, black plums, smoky toast and herbs abound. The tannins are firm and the wine finishes with a coffee and toffee length. It is better with food. £14 | US $15+ |€11
