The Lodi AVA in California has some old zinfandel vineyards that really deliver on the quality value promise. The region produces around 40% of all Californian zinfandel and this wine from Kautz family’s vineyards, come from vines more than 45 years old. To add some additional dimension, it has small additions both Petit Sirah and Syrah.
The Ironstone Old Vine Zinfandel is a mouthfilling, fuller bodied red that has a silky juiciness that keeps you coming back. Or it could be the mint, black cherry, tobacco fruit enriched with nutmeg and oak spice that finishes with plum and caramel. Either way, it is a good deal, particularly if you are buying it in the USA.
Enjoy it with a burger. One with the lot, including beetroot, bacon and cheese!
