Kay Brothers 2008 Hillside Shiraz

Kay Brothers is the oldest McLaren Vale winery continuously owned by the same family starting with the Kay Brothers (Herbert & Frederick) who planted it in 1890. I think that the success of this wine is beside the fact that the team harvested before the 15 day long heatwave that caused some havoc in the Vale & other regions, the 2008 vintage had up until that point been an ideal ripening vintage.

Therefore, the concentration of densely packed berries, earth & fragrant cinnamon spice in this wine is fresh & the 15% alcohol is well integrated providing extra lift on the nose. It is already smooth, supple & warm after languishing for 28 months in new & seasoned oak but this is definitely one to get into your cellar.
