Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rosé Sparkling

Who makes it?

Ridgeview Fitzrovia Rosé sparkling. The Roberts family started Ridgeview in the mid 1990s around Ditchling in Sussex in England’s south.  Their first fizz was put in the bottle in 2000. To those who love this brand, it will be no surprise that by 2005 their wines won trophies. This was just the start though. Famously, two of their sparklings have been served to Presidents in Buckingham Palace at least two of Queen Elizabeth II’s Banquets.   Furthermore, the Ridgeview Rosé Sparkling was served to Barak Obama.

How do they make it?

The blend for this wine is of Pinot Noir Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier.  After the first fermention in stainless steel to preserve the base wines fruit, the wine goes through a second fermentation. It is, after all, a traditionally made fizz. Made just as Champagne is. The Fitzrovia spends around a further 18 months on lees after that second ferment to create all those fine bubbles.

What does it taste like?

It is the colour of pale salmon in the glass. The Fitzrovia Rosé is dry to the palate with a brut level of sweetness (10-11 g/l residual sugar). It has a complex savouriness. The summer aromas of cherry, stonefruit, toasted bread and nuts lift perfume and lift the wine. It is fuller bodied, crisp and intense in the mouth. The spicy strawberry finish has a tartness that keeps the wines elegant.

What to drink it with?

The Ridgeview Fitzrovia is good to go with appetisers, or starters or even a light main meal. An easy match will be a chicken breast with a stuffing of nuts. Also, be adventurous. Try something like duck with cherry, or Carbonara pasta would work as well.

Cheese

Enjoy with a washed rind bloomy cheese.
