Who makes it?
Ringbolt Cabernet is one of the extensive, and very well made, portfolio from the Hill Smith family. The Hill Smith family is also the family behind the world famous Yalumba wine brand. This is one of those wines that tends to deliver year in and year out. It is one of those ‘good buys’ that is irresistible from the first sip.
Ringbolt Bay is at the southern tip of Western Australia’s Margaret River.
How they make it
Margaret River is one of Australia’s great Cabernet Sauvignon regions. It is renown for producing rich red wines that have the layers of complexity that you might expect from regions such as Bordeaux. Often, with a herbal accent. In this Cabernet, the seasoned oak is there to add some flesh but it is carefully chosen. Just 8 months.
What does it taste like?
This shapely red wine. The succulent black currant and plum fruit has a light herbal freshness. There is a warm cinnamon spice overture to pull it all together. It is fuller bodied, it has rounded powdery tannins making this a plush red that fills the mouth with generosity. Additionally, those flavours linger long enough to appreciate the conversation at hand. Good wine, good conversation, good price.
What to drink it with?
This is a burger or bangers and mash match, for sure! But it will also be an easy going match for venison or other game, lamb or beef too. A good wine for just chilling too.
Cheese
Hard cheese is a great match – cheddar and Manchego are clear winners.
