Sainsbury’s wine shelves have a good range of wines if you know what to look for. Of course, the secret is knowing what to look for. .

This is not an exhaustive list, and has grown to be many more than twelve however, here are some that you should start with: 

White wines

Torres Vina Sol (£8.25) - Dry, crisp and lighter in style. Click here for full review.

Porta 6 White Wine (£9) -  A well balanced dry white wine blend from Lisbon that is just made for food. It is floral, citrus and stonefruit in character.  Click here for a review of this wine.

Stellenrust Chenin Blanc (£10.5) - Rounded and fresh, this Chenin has been fermented with native yeasts to give it some extra complexity. Click here for full review.

Yalumba Y Series Viognier (£11) - A reliable and very well made dry white from Australian pioneers of the grape. Click here for full review.

Paul Jaboulet Aine Viognier (£12) - This is fresh, cream and hits the spot and Jaboulet is also a great producer of this grape. Click here for a full review..

Cune Rioja Blanco (£12) - Cune are a great value producer in the Rioja and this white is a good one.

Bellingham Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc (£13.5) - Old vine and lightly oaked. A combination of apple, citrus, spice and cream.

Rosé 

Kylie Minogue Rosé  (£9) - This is an easy to love dry pink wine. Click here for full review.

Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose Rosé (£9.5) - Strawberries, melon and cream. A well balanced and delicious pale dry salmon coloured wine. Click here for a full review.

Santa Julia Plus Malbec Rosé  (£10) - This is silky and textural but still fresh. (This may be a seasonal purchase by Sainsbury's)

Studio By Miraval Rosé (£14) - This is a fresh and fruity wine by Miraval. It is rather good. Click here for a full review.

Mirabeau Pure (£16) -  A lush medium bodied pink wine that is bone dry but has plenty of ripe fruit to balance it.    Click here for a full review.

The Pale by Sacha Lichine (£16) – Another pale and dry South of France rosé from a very reliable rosé specialist. Fresh strawberries, citrus, stonefruit and cream. Click here for a full review.

Miraval Rosé  (£19) – This is one of the richer textural rosé wines that has a fragrance of wild herbs and spicy strawberries. It is a classic for a reason. Click here for a full review.

Red

Sainsbury’s SO Western Cape Cabernet Sauvignon No Added Sulphur (£8) – a medium bodied wine that is a good value example of both an organic red and a no added Sulphur red. Click here for a review.

CUNE Rioja Crianza (£11) - a more medium styled red that has light toasted oak.

Santa Julia Uco Valley Malbec (£12) - A juicy bold red that shows excellent balance.

Mark West Pinot Noir (£13) - A fruity and spicy Pinot Noir from California that is a crowd pleaser. Click here for a full review.

Wynns The Siding Cabernet Sauvignon (£16) – A fuller richer style of Cabernet that drinks well if you happen to leave it in a cool dark place for half a decade. 

Guigal Cotes du Rhone Red Wine (£15) – A fruity red with some gentle spice. It is well made and it delivers good value from Rhone experts. Click here for a full review.

Terre di Faiano Nero di Troia organic (£10) - A fuller bodied red that is complex and plush in the mouth.

Sparkling Wine under £20

Codorniu Vintage Organic Cava (£11) – A classic fizz from Spain made by the original producers of Cava. Fruity and lighter in style.

Oyster Bay Sparkling Cuvee Brut (£13.50) – A creamy apple, lemon and nutty sparkling from New Zealand.  Very enjoyable. 

Chandon Brut (£18) - Made in the style of Champagne. A delicious alternative from Argentina. (click here for a full review)

Sweeties

Taylors LBV Port (£20) - A classic sweet Port.

DB Botrytis Semillon (£8) - De Bortoli make this sweetie and they are one of the best sweet wine producers around. Hard to beat for the price

Kourtaki Mavrodaphni of Patra (£8) - An unusual sweet red that is amazing value once you discover it.
