Who makes it?

Terre di Faiano Susumaniello Rosato is an organic wine from the south Italian specialist Orion Wines.  The grape Susumaniello is a native to Puglia and has captured winelover’s attention recently. For such a rare grape, this grape has star potential. It is not surprising that you will find more and more on our wine shelves.

Apparently, the name Susumaniello is a reference to the high yielding ability of this variety. It is said to resemble a heavily laden donkey (somarello).  As a red wine, the grapes make deeply coloured ruby red wines with purple hues. However, it is a grape that works very well for rosé / rosado wines.

How do they make it?

The grapes for this wine are organic. After crushing, the juice only remains in contact with the wine for around 8 hours. Enough to give a pink hue to the wine. The wine remains cool throughout the process to ensure that the fruitiness is kept. The winemakers leave around 8.5 grams/litre of residual sugar in the wine to keep it in balance. 

What does it taste like?

An off dry wine that has aromas that might take time to find. Those aromas are reminiscent of peach and berries. It is fuller in body and has a savouriness to it. The palate is intense, a little tart and it is textural. 

What to drink it with?

Drink this with food, I recommend you try it with Thai fish cakes with sweet chilli sauce as it has the robustness and the sweetness to cope.
