Who makes it?
The Beach is a recent addition to the Chateau d’Esclans range of rosé. Unquestionably, they have a now enviable range of rosé from the South of France. The range also includes the uber prestigious ‘Garrus’. The estate is partly owned by Sacha Lichine, however, it was he who established the brand before selling part share to LVMH.
Sacha has really made a statement with the depth of his rosé offering.
How do they make it?
This is a tradition South of France rosé blend of grenache, cinsault and syrah. It has been fermented in stainless steel to keep the fresh fruit. This particular wine, The Beach, is all about the fresh fruit and is less textural than the other wines in the portfolio. It has had some lees contact to give some silkiness and creaminess to the wine.
What does it taste like?
It tastes like fresh strawberries, raspberries and cream. That lees work has given the wine that creamy flavour, aroma and that extra weight in the mouth. It is a dry, medium pink rosé. Lots to love here and it is juicy and long!
What to drink it with?
It goes well with chicken satay skewers, or any chicken really. Also with salmon or trout cakes. It would be particularly lovely with a quiche, either a vegetarian version or the traditional Lorraine style. Or as my mum used to call it, bacon and egg tart.
