Vigneti del Vulture Pipoli Basilicata Greco-Fiano 2017

This wine proves that not all wines from Vulture is boldly red. Vulture is a wine region located in the Basilicata region of Southern Italy where the dominant feature is the now inactive volcano, Monte Vulture. That volcano left a rich legacy in the soil which now produces the iconic Aglianico del Vulture. Of course, it also produces some fine white wines and these two varieties: Greco and Fiano are southern Italian specialities.

Under the Vigneti del Vulture label, being sourced from high altitude, 25-30 year old vineyards, they form a harmonious and, richly perfumed, blend. Sweetly scented tropical fruit, ginger and honey overlays zesty lime fruit. While there is a glug of residual sugar (about 7 g/L) on the palate, it is well balanced with soft, fresh acid and gives a fuller roundness to the body. If you are after a wine that will match with spicy food and Asian flavours, this is a good choice.  It is versatile, so any grilled seafood, pork or chicken will work here as well as something like a rich quiche.

Quickie review «Intense tropical, floral fruit is kept in a zesty line with a lime twist. Serve this wine with an aromatic and spicy Asian dish or a rich quiche and it will shine.»
