Waitrose wine shelves have an excellent and large range of wines. It is hard to know where to start. Of course, the secret is knowing what to look for.

Yalumba Organic Viognier (£11) – From the fresh whiff this dry white is captivating. It has a supple cream overlying the fragrant jasmine, apricot and ginger fruit. Click here for full review.

Catena Chardonnay (£15) – A full bodied Chardonnay that has lush oak and is very creamy and buttery.  

Tyrrell's HVD Semillon (£25) - Taste one of Australia's unique wine styles with this Hunter Valley Semillon. It is crisp, citrusy and zesty.

Rosé 

Le Bijou De Sophie Valrose Coteaux de Beziers (£7) - A rosé that is generous in intensity yet fresh, silky smooth and rather easy to drink. Click here for full review.

Bird in Hand Sparkling Wine (£16) –   A dry sparkling Australian white wine with plenty of fruitiness and an abundance of freshness.      Click here for full review.

Jacobs Creek Sparkling Red Wine (£14) – Velvety, sweeter in style but very very moreish with shapely tannins and a rich purple hued colour. Australia does red fizz very well and this is a classic.  Click here for a review 

Castillo Perelada Cava Brut (£13) – A finely tuned Cava that gives Champagne a run for its money.

Sweeties

Campbell’s Rutherglen Muscat (£15) – Campbells are one of Australia’s experts in this very luxuriously sweet style of wine. This is sweet and excellent.

Taylors LBV Port (£20) - A classic sweet Port. (A seasonal purchase. Check availability)

Lustau Pedro Ximenez Murillo  (£19) – This is very rich and very sweet. However, the sweetness is countered by some savoury spice. Sublime. Click here for full review.
