Who makes it?
Zuccardi Q is a range of immediately drinkable wines from the Zuccardi family. One of Argentina’s well known and well respected wine families. The Q range contains a Malbec, a Cabernet Franc, a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Sauvignon as well as this Tempranillo.
In the still-intense focus on Argentinian Malbec, which is good to be fair, it is good to remember that other red grape varieties do just as well in Argentina. Grapes such as Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon and this one, Tempranillo. Or as it is known in Spain, Tinto Roriz.
The current vintage of this wine is around 6 years old at the time of release. That makes this wine even more of a bargain for the price you pay for it. It already comes pre-cellared!
How do they make it?
Zuccardi Q Tempranillo comes from the family’s Santa Rosa vineyards in Mendoza. Mendoza is a region producing some of the best of Argentina’s red wines. This particular wine is fermented in native yeasts and has matured in oak to smooth it out.
What does it taste like?
This is not quite full bodied but is warm, toasty and plush. The black cherry and plum fruit has a leathery side too. And some tobacco as well. The tannins are ripe and shapely and extend the length of the palate. This is a complex wine that still has the potential to age further but is of course good drinking right now.
What to drink it with?
The spiciness of this wine is a good match with steak or a burger. Ragu or moussaka is also a good match.
Hard cheeses such as cheddar or a manchego.
