Sigurd Chenin Blanc

Who makes it?

Sigurd is the passion of a young Australian winemaker, Dan Graham. Dan was a 2021 finalist in the Australian awards the ‘Young Guns of Wine’. He is a specialist in minimal intervention wines. This Chenin Blanc is just one of a wide range of reds, whites and even a rose.

How do they make it?

The Chenin Blanc for this wine comes from the old vines in the Clare Valley. A region that is renowned for its impeccable Riesling however, has pockets of treasures such as this. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and put into older barrel, including into large European oak, to ferment. This includes undergoing malolactic fermentation. The Chenin comes from an organic vineyard.

What does it taste like?

That time in oak has given this Chenin a spicy, creamy character. This complements the grapefruit and apple fruit while also working well with the buttery character too. This Chenin has a definite silk appeal, yet it is still fresh. Either way, this is a wine to sit and contemplate.

What to drink it with?

Enjoy with fish or chicken, a vegetable bake or just by itself.
