Who makes it?
La Sablou Bergerac is one of those cheerful wines that little is published about. Bergerac is one of those regions in the South West of France that should be on wine lovers radars for excellent value wines. Excitement is just now growing for the region.
This was one of my picks from Wines under a tenner 2024!
How do they make it?
La Sablou blanc is made from Sauvignon Blanc. Sometimes there is some semillon added too depending on the vintage. It is made in stainless steel to preserve the fruit characters with up to 4 months on lees to soften the mouthfeel of the wine. That time on lees adds complexity and some roundness.

What does it taste like?
In short, this is a classic dry white wine. It is bone dry, yet has plenty of fruitiness goodness that is ripe and lush. That time on lees adds some savouriness and spice. There is ginger and spice over the apricot fruit along with some light herbs. It is medium bodied, fresh and zesty. It particularly finishes with some lime juice character added there to lighten and tighten.
What to drink it with?
This is undoubtedly good by itself. However, it has plenty going for it to match nicely with light dishes. Lunch is good although, so is dinner. Chicken and fish and vegetables, especially salads.
Cheese
Match this cheese with Brie or chevre.
