Who makes it?
Pikes Luccio Fiano is a relatively new variety from the Pike family winery in the Clare Valley. Many Rieslinglovers around the world know and love the brand for classic Rieslings such as ‘Traditionale’ and ‘The Merle’. However, it goes without saying that the family make a range of high quality white and reds. And more recently, they have brought in some ‘alternative’ grape varieties to make the Luccio range and to blend with their Shiraz. Enter the Fiano grape. There is also an Albarino too.
Incidentally, an amiable companion to this white wine is the Pikes Luccio Novello which you can read about by clicking here.
And for those who don’t drink wine… the Pike family also have a microbrewery producing beer.
How do they make it?
This Fiano is mainly sourced from the Pike’s Polish Hill River estate. Like their skill working with Riesling, the winemaking team capture the fruit. They really let that Fiano fruit shine through.
What does it taste like?
Pikes Luccio Fiano is a crisp, dry white wine. Medium bodied with intense fruit. There is plenty of stone fruit for sure. But there is also riper tropical fruit too. It is all kept fresh with a line of lemony citrus that extends the palate. It is an easy favourite when poured at tastings, a real crowd pleaser.
What to drink it with?
Enjoy with fish and seafood, chicken and Asian spiced dishes. It really doesn’t need food though. It is really good by itself.
