House of Arras Non Vintage Blanc de Blancs

Who makes it?

This Non Vintage House of Arras Blanc de Blancs is a tasty fizz. It is just one of the fine bubbles that The House of Arras produces. Over the past decade the team have worked tirelessly to grab the attention of the world. They have focused it firmly on Tasmania. This is just one of their range which also includes a fine vintage Blanc de Blancs as well.

How do they make it?

Like the Vintage Blanc de Blancs, this Arras NV Blanc de Blancs is also 100% Tasmanian Chardonnay. The House of Arras pull grapes from the Pipers River,  Derwent Valley, Coal River Valley, Tasmanian East Coast & Tamar Valley regions of the state. While the vintage spends at least twice the time resting on dead yeast cells (the lees), this non-vintage still boasts around 30 months. That is almost as many months as a vintage Champagne.

Similarly to the Vintage, this version also has 100% malolactic fermentation, a portion of the initial ferment in barrel and a low dosage. This time around 4 – 5 grams per litre.

What does it taste like?

That time on lees gives some pastry and cream notes to the vibrant floral, lemon and red apple fruit aromas. There is a gentle roundness to the palate and typical soft bubbles. In saying that, it is still a leaner style that you associate with Blanc de blancs. It is well balanced though. These bubbles finish with some fresh biscuit, bread and citrus along with a mineral lilt.

What to drink it with?

This will work very well as an aperitif, or with a light first course of salt and pepper squid / chicken or tofu or even a classic chicken salad.

Cheese

Bloomy style cheeses such as brie, or fresh cheese.
